The UC San Diego African American Studies Minor

The African American Studies Minor (AASM) at UC San Diego is an interdisciplinary minor that examines and leads to an understanding of the experiences of African Americans. The concerns and interests of African Americans have set stage for the advancement of political, educational, social and cultural movement in the United States and in the world.

    LABBE

    Is a woman-owned lifestyle brand based in Venice Beach, California, centered around self-care and wellness products inspired by the ocean. Renee, the brand founder, is an avid surfer and passionate advocate for the health benefits of spending time in saltwater. After decades of working as a trend forecaster, she’s worked with some of the globe’s most recognized apparel, decor, tech & automotive companies, later launching her forecasting firm in 2012. Her love of surfing and foresight into the future compelled her to turn her homemade surf skincare into the beginning of the brand known as Labbe.

  • Rollin roots is a San Diego-based, environmentally friendly, vegan food business that started after the pandemic when forced to close a thriving catering and farmers market business. Witnessing widespread hardships the pandemic caused, they committed

    ROLLING ROOTS

    is a Black owned, San Diego-based vegan restaurant. Although their food is strictly plant based, you wouldn’t know if it wasn’t mentioned. Chef Avonte, the owner, started a food truck after the pandemic when forced to close a thriving farmers market and catering business. Witnessing widespread hardships the pandemic caused, he committed to providing large portions at reasonable prices. In addition, he use profits to donate and feed the community. Avonte says, “We aren’t trying to convert everyone to veganism, our goal is simple: get others to eat less meat and processed food”.
